In its dream scenario, the Nevada football team will beat UNLV on Saturday afternoon at Mackay Stadium, roll the Fremont Cannon from its sideline to midfield and take a team photo with the trophy.

That’s the plan, but the Wolf Pack (2-9, 2-5 Mountain West) will have to prove over 60 minutes Saturday that it’s the better team, which will require beating a UNLV (5-6, 4-3) squad playing for a bowl berth.

The ultimately prize – the Fremont Cannon, a 545-pound behemoth first awarded in 1970 – means a lot to players on both sides of the rivalry.
