UNM cools down Nevada's bats, sends Pack to losers' bracket

The Wolf Pack finally ran into a pitcher who could cool off its hot bats.

New Mexico ace Colton Thomson was dominant Thursday night, limiting Nevada to three hits in a complete-game shutout as the Lobos topped the Wolf Pack, 3-0, and sent Nevada to the losers’ bracket of the Mountain West Tournament.

Nevada entered the game averaging nearly nine runs per game over the last month and had won 15 of its last 17 contests. But Thomson, a senior left-hander, allowed just five baserunners while striking out 11.

Wolf Pack second baseman Miles Mastrobuoni singled in the first and fourth innings and Bryce Greager singled in the seventh but those were the only hits Nevada mustered one day after rapping 17 hits, including eight for extra-bases, in a 13-5 victory over SDSU in the Nevada’s tournament opener.
