The Nevada baseball team had ridden its hot bats to victories in 14 of its last 15 games to give itself a shot at the Mountain West regular-season title but it was those same bats that went cold as the Wolf Pack’s championship hopes evaporated Thursday night against rival UNLV at Peccole Park.
Needing to sweep of UNLV this week to earn a share of the MW championship for a second straight season, the Wolf Pack scored its fewest runs in its last 39 games. Nevada pushed just one man across home plate in a 7-1 loss to UNLV before 1,085 fans as it was shut down by the Rebels’ righty D.
