With 9.7 seconds left in UNLV’s upset of Nevada, Javon Mooring, the man who tormented the Wolf Pack from the start of the night to the end of it, strode to the free throw line to insert the final dagger.

As Mooring walked toward the charity stripe, the crowd of 11,285 – the eighth largest in Lawlor Events Center history – scattered toward the exits. Instead of waiting to see the Wolf Pack players sing the school song with the student section after a victory like it was following the last 16 home games, the fans raced each other out the door to beat the traffic rather than watch the bitter end of a rivalry loss.
