When Wolf Pack center fielder Cal Stevenson, the 2015 Mountain West freshman of the year, decided to transfer out of Nevada last summer to follow coach Jay Johnson to Arizona, it was a big news.
It was big enough the national baseball media took note, with one writer in particular tweeting “Cal Stevenson is transferring, big loss for Nevada.” That was true. It was a big loss. Stevenson led NCAA freshmen in hitting at .359 and earned second-team freshman All-American honors by Louisville Slugger and Baseball America.
But that tweet also rubbed Nevada’s TJ Friedl the wrong way.
