Nevada will send four boxers to the national championships.
Nevada’s Nate Strother made sure of that when he won his 165-pound bout by decision over Gabriel Samuels from UCLA in the Western Regionals college boxing Saturday night at the Eldorado Hotel & Casino.
The Nevada club boxing team had three qualify for nationals by winning their semifinal bouts on Friday or receiving a bye.
Garrett Felling, a three-time national champion, had a bye at 195 pounds in the semifinals.
But if Felling was rusty from a long ring layoff, it did not show. Felling pummelled Tati-Mackaya, Air Force, and their fight ended after the second round when Tati-Mackaya voluntarily retired.
