Claudia Herrero, a junior on the Wolf Pack women's tennis team, became the first player in program history to be named the conference player of the year when she earned the Mountain West's top honor Wednesday.
Herrero, from Salamanca, Spain, finished the Wolf Pack’s regular season with 17 singles victories. All of her dual matches came from the No. 1 singles spot. She went 3-1 in conference play, defeating No. 41 Carol Yang of UNLV and No. 84 Sybille Gauvain of San Jose State. Herrero is ranked 108th in the nation.
Herrero, who tied a program record with 24 singles wins last season, was named to the All-MW singles team for the second time in her career.
