Pack alum Gimenez debuts new pitch in MLB: 'The Medium'

Chris Gimenez, a Wolf Pack alum and big-league catcher, was called into action atop the mound last weekend and made major league history by debuting a pitch never before seen: The Medium.

It was the fourth big-league pitching appearance for Gimenez, who was mostly an outfielder who played some catcher at Nevada from 2002-04. Gimenez was called to the mound as his Minnesota Twins were trailing the Detroit Tigers, 12-4.

After he tossed his first pitch 65 miles per hour, Tigers color analyst Torrii Hunter, a former big-league All-Star, let out a, "What the?!?!" After Gimenez's second pitch came in at 64 miles per hour, Hunter said, "I think it's a knuckleball, maybe.
