Despite not being on an NFL team, Colin Kaepernick was named Friday the NFL Players Association's Week 1 Community MVP for his charitable work.
The former Nevada Wolf Pack and San Francisco 49ers quarterback was given the honor for "empowering underserved communities through donations and grassroots outreach," according to the NFLPA's press release.
Kaepernick made $100,000 in donations on Sept. 7 by providing a $25,000 gift to four charities, including: the inner-city youth group DREAM; Coalition for the Homeless, which addresses child incarceration; The Gathering for Justice's War on Children, and United We Dream, an equality group for immigrant youth.
