Nevada baseball club playing in national tournament

The Nevada baseball club team will play in the national tournament for the first time in the program's history this weekend.

Nevada (20-4, 13-0) won the Southern Pacific Region Tournament in Lancaster, Calif., besting teams from Arizona State, Cal Poly and Northern Arizona. Nevada, which beat Cal Poly in the title game, plays in the north conference of the Southern Pacific Region along with Cal, UC Davis, Sonoma State, St. Mary's and Humboldt State.

Fifth-seeded Nevada opens plays in the double-elimination, eight-team national tournament Saturday at 10:30 p.m. against No. 4 seed Florida State. The tournament is being held at Brooks Stadium in Paducah, Ky.
