MW looks to alter controversial TV payout deal

Few things in the Mountain West are as controversial as the league’s television revenue distribution.

As part of Boise State’s agreement to stay in the MW in 2012 and ditch its pledge to join the Big East, the conference agreed to a disproportionate television revenue payout system that favored the Broncos.

The MW is working to change that system, commissioner Craig Thompson said Monday at the league’s football media days, but even if that change is made Boise State would still get the largest cut of the money.

“Boise State has a different deal,” Thompson said in a one-on-one after his state of the conference address.
