Murray: Muss must decide if grass is greener elsewhere

Is the grass greener on the other side?

That is the question Nevada basketball coach Eric Musselman, who has reportedly interviewed for the opening at Cal, will have to answer if the position is ultimately offered to him (and that’s no slam dunk).

On one hand, there’s no doubt Cal offers greener pastures in terms of pure dollar bills.

A Mountain West school simply can’t fight an even battle with a Pac-12 program on the financial front. Cal paid its last basketball coach, Cuonzo Martin, a shade under $1.9 million, and while it is expected to cut the outlay for its next coach, it can still financially overwhelm Nevada, which would be hard-pressed to stretch to the $1 million mark (the current high for a Wolf Pack coach in any sport is $585,000).
