EVANSTON, Ill. – Entering Nevada’s season opener at Northwestern, Jay Norvell didn’t boast or brag and he didn’t downplay expectations. He was honest in saying he didn’t know exactly what kind of team he truly had.
The Wolf Pack had 42 new players, an entirely new coaching staff, two vastly different schemes and, to be honest, really low outside expectations.
But, after 60 minutes Saturday at Ryan Field against Northwestern, a Big Ten team projected to compete for its division title, this much is clear: Norvell has a much better team than most expected.
