Job secured, Jay Norvell turns attention to hiring staff

As the hoopla surrounding his introductory press conference last Friday subsided, after the handful of interview requests had been obliged and the pictures with family had been taken, new Nevada football coach Jay Norvell checked his cell phone. The damage: 69 missed calls and 389 unread text messages.

Many of those were well-wishes from friends congratulating Norvell on finally becoming a FBS head coach after 31 years in the profession. But others surely were colleagues ready to submit their résumés for a spot on his staff.

“I have an army and avalanche of people who would absolutely love to coach at this university, people who come from the highest level of the National Football League, people at great schools that have won championships and coached in some of the similar bowl games that I have,” Norvell said during his press conference.
