Jay Norvell grew up in Madison, Wisc., in the 1960s and would sit in the south end zone of famed Camp Randall Stadium each Saturday to watch the hometown team, the Wisconsin Badgers, play football.
He memorized the routine of every home game and knew where the cheerleaders would stand for every quarter of the game and when the tubs would pass before his section of the crowd. The son of a former Wisconsin running back, Norvell dreamed of the day he would be on the field, first as a player and then as a coach.
On Friday afternoon, standing inside Mackay Stadium's club level, Norvell’s dream of becoming a college football head coach, an idea hatched when he was just a kid wearing Badgers’ cardinal and white, finally became reality.
