Four months from now, the Nevada basketball team wants to look back at its season opener at Saint Mary’s as a net positive.
In the moment, the 81-63 loss to the nationally ranked Gaels showed the team how far away it is from being an NCAA Tournament-caliber team, but it also could be exactly what Nevada needed to start the season.
“Most definitely,” Wolf Pack power forward Cameron Oliver said when asked if the loss could be beneficial for Nevada in the long run. “It’s just the first game. We shot ourselves in the foot a little bit but it’s a wakeup call and know we now how we have to play for the rest of the season.
