Less than a mile into the Nevada basketball team’s annual conditioning run at Tahoe, Jordan Caroline was talking to teammate Cody Martin while plugging along the course when he tripped on a rock.

Seconds later Caroline was faceplanted on the ground with another teammate – the 6-foot-11 K.J. Hymes – lying on top of him in a scene more accustomed on a freeway than a cross-country track.
“I hit a rock and I fell and another rock hit me in the ribs," said Caroline, who took another spill just minutes later.
