Twenty-seven days after Nevada hired Eric Musselman, the basketball coach got his first verbal commitment.
The pledge came Marcus Marshall, a transfer from Missouri State who had been recruited by Nevada’s previous staff but had no interest in the school. But, following the coaching change, Marshall’s interest was piqued.
Both sides were taking a risk of sorts.
Marshall had never stepped foot in Reno before committing to Nevada – he didn't even take an official visit before committing – and had interest from several Power 5 schools. Instead, he opted to sign with a program that was coming off just nine wins the season prior.
