Wolf Pack coach Brian Polian learned plenty of principles about the game of football from his father, Bill, a Pro Football Hall of Famer and six-time NFL executive of the year. Among those principles was this.
“My dad taught me a long time ago you can never have too many high school quarterbacks,” he said. “They’re used to having the ball in their hand and used to responsibility and all of those things.”
Enter Asauni Rufus, a triple-option Navy-style quarterback during his time at Bakersfield (Calif.) High. Rufus led his school to its first state title in 86 years in 2013 while accounting for 3,361 yards and 44 touchdowns.
