* ONE OF THE GREAT MYSTERIES in the recent history of Wolf Pack basketball was how Nevada successfully recruited JaVale McGee to campus. Now, McGee was exceptionally raw as a prep recruit; played for three high schools in four years; was full of follies on the court; had a “hands-on” mother, to put it generously; can be aloof (a Wolf Pack assistant once rejoiced after learning McGee knew his name); and scored only two points in the only AAU game then-Nevada coach Mark Fox saw him play.
