Volleyball notes: Cook puts assistant coach candidates 'through the wringer' before making hire

College volleyball teams are allowed to have only two full-time assistant coaches, and they have a lot of work to do at Nebraska with coaching both the indoor and beach teams and recruiting.

It doesn’t always work out this way, but Nebraska coach John Cook wants to hire good assistant coaches and have them around for several years. Then if they get a chance to be a head coach, he’s supportive.

Nebraska’s coaching staff had a change again in the offseason when Tyler Hildebrand left after one season to work with the U.S. beach volleyball teams. This spring, Cook hired BYU men’s assistant coach Jaylen Reyes as the Huskers’ new assistant coach, joining second-year assistant Kayla Banwarth.
