Greg Sharpe, the beloved Voice of the Huskers and former Voice of the Wildcats, died Friday after a 10-month battle with pancreatic cancer. He was 61.
Sharpe’s play-by-play calls for Nebraska football and baseball (2008-24) and Kansas State football and basketball (1996-02) paired his distinct voice with a professional passion that prompted fans, young and old, to synchronize their radios with their muted televisions.
Despite his April cancer diagnosis and ensuing treatments, Sharpe remained steadfast in his commitment to calling Nebraska football games during the 2024 season — only missing three: against Illinois, Iowa and the Pinstripe Bowl against Boston College.
