PISCATAWAY, N.J. — Rutgers fan Walt Hynoski, with a cigar in one hand and a Budweiser in another, gladly welcomed me to a tailgate right outside High Point Solutions Stadium.
One of his friends read my press credential.
“Lincoln Journal Star,” he said. “Is that a newspaper?”
A nearby Nebraska fan, Jerry Bartek of Lincoln, vouched for me.
And thus began my interaction with Rutgers and Nebraska fans alike before a football game between conference opponents.
Still seems strange, doesn’t it?
That’s what I kept thinking driving 85 mph in the slow lane on the New Jersey Turnpike on Saturday.
