Steven M. Sipple: With this Mayor, buckle up: You can count on an easily discernible style

Say what you want about former Nebraska men's basketball coach Moe Iba, his program always had an easily discernible playing style.

That style was consistent throughout his tenure (1981-86). It was as distinctive as Moe's raspy voice.

“Whenever I talk to people nowadays, they think we were such a slowdown offense," says Dave Hoppen, the Huskers' all-time leading scorer. "I think we had an offense that wanted to get the ball inside.”

Bottom line, “Moe was more concerned about the defensive side. He wanted you to be able to play defense, and sometimes maybe some of our better offensive players didn’t always get to play a lot because Moe wanted you to be able to play defense, too.
