Spring Notes: Creating Turnovers a Learned Skill

Central Florida created 58 turnovers in two seasons under defensive coordinator Erik Chinander, a number that ranked third nationally.

It’s safe to assume most of those didn’t come by accident.

“It’s a point of emphasis in everything we do,” first-year Nebraska assistant coach Jovan Dewitt said, “because one of the largest factors in determining whether you’re winning or losing is not just giving up yards or points, but how many turnovers you can create.”

Dewitt coached linebackers and special teams with Chinander at UCF and is assuming the positions at Nebraska, except he’s focusing on outside linebackers, with former Nebraska linebacker Barrett Ruud coaching the inside linebackers.
