After a frustrating but dominant scoreless first half Thursday against Illinois, the Huskers got goals from Jaycie Johnson and Haley Hanson to earn an important 2-0 victory in the chase for a Big Ten Tournament berth.
“At halftime we weren’t happy with how we were play and we knew we had another gear to go,” Johnson said. “We all had the right mindset in the second half. We never had a doubt we were going to win and everything just started to connect.“
The Huskers goal came in the 64th when Caroline Buelt played a perfect aerial through ball down the left flank that bounced past the Illinois defender into open space.
