Lincoln – Andrew White III and Jack McVeigh ledfour Cornhuskers in double figures and Nebraska clamped down defensively on the way to a 97-51 victory over Mississippi Valley State in the season opener Saturday night at Pinnacle Bank Arena.
White led all scorers with 18 points on an efficient 7 of 10 shooting. McVeigh contributed 16 points and 4 rebounds off the bench and Shavon Shields poured in 15. Nick Fuller led the Huskers inside with 10 points and nine rebounds, while Nebraska held the Delta Devils to 26 percent from the floor.
White and McVeigh paced NU in the early going, as both scored 10 first half points to lead the Huskers to a 43-21 halftime lead.
