Four-star quarterback Martinez commits to Huskers

The four-star signal-caller from Fresno, California announced Wednesday evening that he was flipping his commitment to Nebraska from Tennessee, capping a whirlwind recruitment that began with a scholarship offer mere moments after Central Florida beat Memphis for the American Athletic Conference title.

Martinez finished his junior season of high school at Clovis West as one of the most heralded quarterback recruits in the country, but had reconstructive surgery on his throwing shoulder this winter and did not play his senior year.

He still had enough interest that he verbally committed to Tennessee in May. When the Knights coaching staff started officially accepting jobs at NU, Martinez was quarterbacks coach Mario Verduzco’s first call.
