Diaco says Huskers need time to fix past tackling woes; Banker defends his teachings

Nebraska first-year defensive coordinator Bob Diaco said Tuesday he needs at least a full year to get his defense humming the way he wants.

His current group of defenders, which switched from playing a 4-3 system last season to Diaco's 3-4 style, will improve as it gains aptitude and depth of understanding in the new system, he said. He feels it needs a full cycle of strength and conditioning, skill development and "intellectual conditioning."

"It is a year-long process and as I said, it is a years process to get the defense built back to being great," he told reporters after practice.
