The Nebraska women’s basketball team raced out to a 15-2 lead and never trailed in a 77-67 win against Illinois on Thursday in Champaign, Illinois.
Nebraska ended a three-game losing streak and moved back to .500 in Big Ten play at 3-3.
Freshman forward Ashtyn Veerbeek scored a game-high 19 points to lead four Huskers in double-figure scoring. Hannah Whitish added 12 points, and Taylor Kissinger and Leigha Brown scored 10 points apiece.
In the fourth quarter, Nebraska went more than three minutes without scoring and Illinois got its 14-point deficit down to 64-57. But Nebraska got two big baskets from Veerbeek on a layup and three-pointer to regain a 10-point lead with 1:45 remaining in the game.
