A new era arrives in 2025, with John Butler taking over as defensive coordinator in place of Tony White, who departed for Florida State before the Pinstripe Bowl last season. Butler was the secondary coach and pass game coordinator in 2024. 2025 will be his 31st season coaching on the defensive side of the ball, so he has a massive amount of experience. He has 20 years experience in college football, 10 years in the NFL, and he’s been around, having coached at schools in the Big Ten, Big 12, and SEC.
The only red flag?
His only defensive coordinator position in FBS was at Penn State in 2013, where his defense was second in scoring defense.
