Vanderbilt rape case: Judge reinstates bonds, requires GPS monitors

A judge on Wednesday reinstated the bonds for two former Vanderbilt University football players who learned Tuesday there would be a new trial in their rape case.

Attorneys for Brandon Vandenburg, 22, and Cory Batey, 21, said they expected and hoped both men would be released from jail Wednesday.

Criminal Court Judge Monte Watkins increased bond for Vandenburg to $400,000 — $50,000 more than the original amount set before trial. He reinstated an original $350,000 bond for Batey. Both men were found guilty of aggravated rape and other charges after a 12-day trial in January.
