On the surface, Cody Shear seems like an unlikely choice to be delegated as a public mouthpiece for the group of Pac-12 football players demanding change and threatening to boycott the 2020 season.

Shear never imagined stepping into the national media spotlight usually reserved for star quarterbacks.

The offensive lineman did not see the field during his two seasons at Oregon and has yet to take a snap at Arizona State after transferring last year.

But when Valentino Daltoso, another former Oregon offensive lineman, started discussing the movement with teammates at California, Shear was one of the first players from a conference rival they called.
