Ole Miss hires former Maryland coach D.J. Durkin as assistant

Mississippi Clarion Ledger

OXFORD, Miss. — Ole Miss announced three new hires to its football coaching staff on Thursday, including former Maryland head coach D.J. Durkin.

Durkin spent last season working as a consultant with the Atlanta Falcons. Prior to that, the former Florida and Michigan defensive coordinator was the head coach at Maryland from 2016-18. Durkin was placed on administrative leave from his job at Maryland in August 2018 after the school was being investigated related to the death of former football player Jordan McNair.

McNair died of heatstroke during a Maryland practice, as was originally reported by ESPN at the time.
