Oklahoma and Kyler Murray look dominant in first game of post-Baker Mayfield era

Based on the initial impression made in Saturday’s season opener, Oklahoma has been able to replace one of the great quarterbacks in recent history without skipping a beat.

Junior quarterback Kyler Murray, the replacement for Heisman winner Baker Mayfield, has drawn more attention this offseason for his baseball future than any football prowess. In June, he was selected ninth overall by the Oakland Athletics and handed roughly $4.5 million as a signing bonus.

And the dialogue surrounding Murray as a football player centered on his perceived inability to match what Mayfield achieved a season ago. Very few could, of course.
