No. 7 Georgia beats No. 6 Florida in slugfest to take control of SEC East

No. 7 Georgia took control of the Southeastern Conference's East Division with a 24-17 defeat of No. 6 Florida in their annual rivalry showdown Saturday afternoon in Jacksonville.

As the final score reflects, defense was the name of the game. The Bulldogs (7-1, 4-1 SEC) held the Gators (7-2, 4-2) to just 278 total yards, including just 21 yards rushing on 19 carries. Georgia had a 35:48-24:12 time-of-possession edge in the contest.

Leading 3-0, Georgia finally broke through for the game's first touchdown when quarterback Jake Fromm hit Dominick Blaylock for a 3-yard touchdown with 4:43 to go in the second quarter.
