No. 1 Clemson stops North Carolina's two-point try to stave off upset

USA TODAY

No. 1 Clemson avoided its first defeat since January 2018 by stopping North Carolina's two-point try with less than two minutes to go.

After scoring a touchdown with 1:17 remaining, UNC coach Mack Brown elected to try for two (and the win) rather than kick an extra point that likely would have forced overtime. But the stout Clemson defense stood tall, stopping Tar Heels quarterback Sam Howell, on what appeared to be an option play, and preventing his pitch from reaching the end zone.

The Tigers escaped with a 21-20 victory after recovering the ensuing onside kick.
