Michigan is expected to have a new starting quarterback next season.
Joe Milton entered the NCAA transfer portal Thursday, bringing about a sudden end to a career in Ann Arbor that took flight last October with a strong performance in the opener before it unraveled as the Wolverines limped to a 2-4 record.
Milton will have immediate eligibility when he picks his next school and will be available to play the next three years because he qualified for a redshirt in 2018.
There was hope Milton would become the first Michigan quarterback head coach Jim Harbaugh recruited out of high school to become a star for the Wolverines.
