LSU, Clemson 'antsy to play' after long College Football Playoff layoff after semifinals

USA TODAY

NEW ORLEANS – The long wait for the national championship game here Monday is starting to test some people’s patience.

It’s not just the longest layoff ever in the six-year history of the College Football Playoff – 16 days after the semifinal games on Dec. 28.

It’s also the latest game in January that either team ever has ever played – Clemson or Louisiana State. By Monday, both teams will have played just one game in 37 days.

“It’s good for preparation, but I’m like so antsy to play,” Clemson linebacker Isaiah Simmons said Saturday.
