The Clemson Tigers' quest to return to the College Football Playoff got off to a roaring start as they knocked off the Auburn Tigers 19-13 on Saturday night.
This game was a defensive battle for most of the way, with Clemson taking advantage of a couple of openings and one big penalty to begin its 2016 campaign with a victory.
Auburn's much-maligned defense showed a lot of poise against a high-powered Clemson offense that includes Heisman Trophy favorite Deshaun Watson and star running back Wayne Gallman.
Auburn briefly held a 3-0 lead in the second quarter before Watson finally went to work.
