NEW YORK — If you subscribe to the MVP theory of the Heisman Trophy, it would have been easy to choose any of the finalists. But there’s a pretty good argument to be made that no one meant more to his team’s success than Derrick Henry.
The Alabama junior was announced as the 81st Heisman winner Saturday. His 1,832-point total 293 points ahead of Stanford running back Christian McCaffrey (1,539 points). Clemson quarterback Deshaun Watson finished third (1,165). It was the closest vote since 2009, when another Alabama running back (Mark Ingram) edged another Stanford running back (Toby Gerhart).
