Unsurprisingly, two of the top three games were conference championship games that had major college football playoff implications. Georgia made the CFP thanks to their win over Auburn, while Wisconsin was eliminated from playoff contention with their loss to Ohio State.

Two more games - Alabama vs. Auburn and Ohio State vs. Michigan - were rivalry games between storied programs with huge fan bases.

The only game that made the top five that was played before the final two weeks of the season was the Florida State-Alabama game that was the marquee game of opening weekend. Alabama was the preseason No. 1 team, while FSU began the season at No. 3.
