Footwork And The Freak

USA Today–Jeff Hanisch

Giannis Antetokounmpo is destroying NBA defenses as the Bucks’ primary ball handler.

When Michael Carter-Williams tore his hip at the end of February and joined Greivis Vasquez on the injured list, the Bucks’ options at point guard looked bleak. The pair were Kidd’s first-choice point guards heading into the season, and back-up option OJ Mayo also quickly became injured.

The Bucks’ point guard options, then, were shoot first, combo-guard Jerryd Bayless, the narcoleptic stylings of Tyler Ennis, and “I guess Giannis might be able to do this.”

Obviously, they chose the latter option, and it’s one gamble that’s paid off in a season of failed gambles for the franchise.
