The NBA has come to a complete halt, but two new trade ideas have surfaced for the Dallas Mavericks. Rudy Gobert of the Utah Jazz has been on bad terms with his teammate Donovan Mitchell since the suspension of the 2019-20 NBA regular season. One of those ideas had Rudy Gobert being traded to the Dallas Mavericks to be the Tyson Chandler of this new era of Mavs basketball.

Rudy Gobert would immediately become the starting center in Dallas, which would move Kristaps Porzingis back to the power forward role. Gobert could defend the bigger centers in the league, but that would force Porzingis to chase around the smaller power forwards and would take him out of the pick and roll offense most of the time. Bleacher Report’s idea had Dwight Powell, Tim Hardaway Jr. and two draft picks being sent to Utah in exchange for the two-time defensive player of the year. It might make sense for the Dallas Mavericks to make this trade, but getting the Jazz to say yes to trading away their franchise center might not be the easiest thing in the world. Gobert is set to hit free agency in 2021, so it might make even more sense for the Dallas Mavs to wait until then to chase him.
Another trade idea that came from Bleacher Report was one that would send Myles Turner of the Indiana Pacers to the Dallas Mavericks. You can check out that full article on Bleacher Report! Turner was rumored to be in trade talks all last season after the Pacers starting seeing more success with Domantas Sabonis. The Pacers ultimately opted to wait until Victor Oladipo got healthy before making any big roster changes, but now that he’s back, they may be more willing to move on from Myles Turner.

Turner is a Dallas native and would provide an extra layer of rim protection for the Dallas Mavericks in the painted area. Myles Turner can stretch the floor, but his 3-point percentage took a bit of a hit this past season as he only shot a little under 34 percent. Bleacher Report’s trade idea had the Dallas Mavericks sending Maxi Kleber, Seth Curry and Jalen Brunson to the Indiana Pacers in exchange for Myles Turner. This trade seems less costly on the surface compared to the Rudy Gobert idea, but losing three key rotation players could be detrimental to this Dallas Maverick team.
