For Binns, the journey to playing football at the Naval Academy has taken him away from his native Jamaica and all over the United States.
Binns was in elementary school when his parents split up and eventually divorced. Hephzibah Thomas, a deeply religious woman, felt a calling to the ministry and set off to do God's work – bringing young E.K. along with her.
Mother and son first landed in Houston, Texas then headed to Tulsa, Oklahoma. Next came a stop in Hampstead, Maryland, where Binns played football as a freshman at North Carroll High.
