Underdog Navy women’s rowing set to make sixth straight appearance at NCAA championships

It’s probably premature to use the word dynasty, but the Navy women’s rowing program is certainly headed in that direction.

Racing on the Cooper River in New Jersey, Navy pulled off a clean sweep of the grand finals — winning the first varsity eight, second varsity eight and first varsity four competitions. The Midshipmen scored the maximum 54 points to beat runner-up Bucknell (47) and third place Boston University (43).

This was Navy’s fifth conference championship under coach Joe Schlosberg, who succeeded the retired Mike Hughes in August 2015. Considering Navy paused all athletic activities for a month during the spring semester, this title may have been the most rewarding.
