It was a successful season debut for interim coordinator Dale Pehrson and the Navy defense.
Head coach Ken Niumatalolo praised the game-plan devised by Pehrson, who elected to call the game from the field on Saturday. Pehrson worked from the press box for most of the 13 years that Buddy Green served as defensive coordinator.
"Because of the no-huddle offenses, the fast tempo. It's harder to relay things down from the press box. If I have to, I can signal it quickly myself and get it in," Pehrson said when asked why he chose to be on the field.
