Norovirus then coronavirus: Navy men’s lacrosse faced challenges from start to finish

Joe Amplo never would have imagined his first season as Navy men’s lacrosse head coach would be so bizarre.

One crazy, unexpected event during a season is unnerving enough. To have the natural order of things upended twice in the same spring is beyond comprehension.

Amplo figured he dealt with the biggest crisis of the 2020 campaign in late February when the traditional meeting with Maryland was postponed due to a norovirus outbreak among the Navy men’s lacrosse team.

More than 30 Navy players and support personnel were diagnosed with varying levels of the nasty virus in the days following its game at Richmond on Tuesday, Feb.
