Navy's Gulley, Gonzales take lead roles among team full of leaders

During Navy's first padded practice of spring camp, Daniel Gonzales spotted a teammate who was lagging behind in a particular drill.

In years past, Gonzales might not have thought it was his place to say something. On this day, the senior inside linebacker jumped all over the offending party.

"Today, there was a guy who was a little tired and struggling to keep up. That's something we can't have. That's just not acceptable," Gonzales said. "When we play Navy football we have to be tougher, in better shape and have more heart than our opponent."

Gonzales took it upon himself to reprimand another player because it's part of the job description that goes along with being defensive captain.
