Navy coaches have encouraged sophomore attackman Jack Ray to use his tremendous size to force his way to the goal more often. Ray picked an opportune time to heed that advice.
Ray's unassisted goal with 37.7 seconds remaining in regulation was the game-winner as Navy slipped past No. 15 Loyola, 10-9, in a pivotal Patriot League men's lacrosse contest on Saturday.
The 6-foot-6, 261-pound Ray found himself being covered behind the cage by defenseman Foster Huggins, who checks in at 5-foot-10, 180 pounds. Ray lowered his shoulder and drove right past the smaller Huggins, getting to the front of the goal and flipping a 2-yard shot past Loyola goalie Jacob Stover to send the Midshipmen into raucous celebration.
